One of the more typical reactions people have when they see these images on canvas, hanging on a wall is, "What are these?". Which is exactly the correct response. They aren't paintings as we typically understand them, and they certainly aren't photographs. Although these images begin with a photograph (or more likely, several), they are completely redrawn, reconstructed and revised using the software programs, Photoshop and Painter.

I use a pen and a tablet as my interface with the machine, so in the way that the hand/brush moves color across a surface, it's very much like painting, only without the smells of turpentine and linseed. In the way that technology is used here to capture and present an idea, the process is much like photography. The stylus and the plotter are tools, like a chemical bath and an enlarger.

So, what are these? I call them digital paintings... Ultrachrome timescapes infused with Dali and Magritte with an occasional nod to Parrish.

Enjoy.
